Our central mission is to create thriving communities and empower lives. This was made even more vital because of Covid-19. More people than ever needed support, and our communities responded.
We’ve seen first-hand how communities, in their time of need, came together and supported each other. And we’ve learnt how we can be a part of the difference they make, whether through funding support, advice, guidance or just someone to talk to. It’s something we hope to grow and expand on over the coming years.
We supported 89 organisations with £85,000 from our Community Grant Funding. Here are just a few that we've supported:
- We helped brighten Yeovil Town Centre during the winter through £1,500 funding for a community project with Yeovil Art Space. 'Winter Wonderland' brought local people together to make colourful craft models of their homes, which were lit up and displayed in empty town centre shop fronts.
- We enabled visually impaired bowls enthusiasts to continue to meet socially through £1,396 funding for some adaptations to enable social distancing at their meets.
- We gave £750 funding to a local mental health support charity to provide 12 places to local people to enjoy therapeutic art sessions with a professional teacher local to their home.
- We funded £500 for a new kit for local Yeovil under 9's football team bearing 'Crimestoppers' logo to support their return to the game post lockdown and help deliver a community safety message.
